Location: Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, UK
Date: 29 November 2013 and repeated 10 January 2014
Overview: The Scottish Government hosted a free seminar about improving the energy efficiency of tenements. The agenda is here.
The session focused on innovative approaches to energy efficiency in tenements and flatted properties looking at recent work by Changeworks and other organisations such as Historic Scotland and Consumer Futures. These are common buildings which must form part of retrofit strategies. However, issues including multiple ownership, mixed tenure and heritage designations mean there are few tangible examples of completed retrofits. The session enabled delegates to explore and debate both recent research and emerging projects to determine how these initiatives might influence future energy efficiency programmes.
There was also a related afternoon session aimed at housing associations and local authorities which explored Scottish Government funding opportunities – namely the Warm Homes Fund and the Gas Infill Fund.
