The owners of these case study buildings were motivated to become involved in the LEAF project in order to improve comfort in their properties. In addition, it was hoped that energy efficiency retrofit would increase marketability for private landlords.
During the project, a complex retrofit was recommended for these case study buildings. Problems with heat loss in the buildings prompted the recommendation of external wall, cellar ceiling and loft insulation, and double glazed windows and insulated doors in the stairwells. Further measures recommended to owners included: a new gas heating system, thermostatic heating controls and insulation of heating pipes.
Owners chose to proceed with the installation of loft insulation and the insulated doors. These measures are projected to reduce fuel bills for each building by approximately €990 a year.
