At the beginning of April 2014, the LEAF partners met in Stuttgart, Germany, to discuss project progress. A key agenda item was the development of the engagement and technical LEAF toolkits – which are currently underway and expected to be published later in the year.
The partners also had chance to visit two examples of apartment blocks. The first was a typical high-rise block built in the 1960s which had benefited from insulation improvements, conversion of open balconies into sun rooms and the transformation of open corridors into buffer zones. The second was the LEAF Stuttgart case study; a building constructed in 1965 which is currently undergoing a refurbishment for the LEAF project. Considerable energy savings are expected from insulating walls and ceilings.
